在段落写作中,主题句(Topic sentence)是一个段落的灵魂,其他的句子都要围绕它展开.我们把这些用以支持主题句的句子称为“支持句”或“扩展句”( Developing sentence).在段落扩展句的写作中,同学们应主要把握两点.
1．段落内容的一致性
所有的扩展句都要与主题句保持一致,都要有助于支持或发展主题句的表达中心,都要为中心思想服务.如：
Chart l shows the daily erage amount of time thestudents of the school spend on different after-class ac-tivities. The students put the most time -93 minutes intotheir homework ,and next in line is watching TV,whichtakes up 46 minutes. They put in about the same amountof time listening to music and working on the computer,34 minutes and 30 minutes each,while 25 minutes isspent on sports, only 12 minutes goes into housework.
分析：本段的主题句“Chart l shows the daily -erage amount of time the students of the school spend ondifferent after-class activities．”说明了本段的中心思想,即学生课余时间的利用情况.下面的扩展句分别说明了学生课余时间的利用情况,有力地支持了主题句.
2．段落内容的连贯性
句意紧凑、行文连贯是高质量写作的重要特点之一.在扩展句子时要恰当运用空间、时间和逻辑等写作次序,把各个扩展句有机地组织起来,而且要合理使用过渡语,以增加扩展句之间的连贯性,从而达到整个段落浑然一体的写作效果.
(1)运用空间顺序组合扩展句
Our library is in the center of the school. There´s abeautiful garden in front ofit and our classroom buildingis right behindit.
(2)运用时间顺序和逻辑关系组合扩展句
In fact,l didn´t realize its importance until l waschosen monitor of my class in my senior middle school.At first,I did most of the duties myselfwhile others caredlittle about class activities. As a result,l was tired outand depressed. Then I turned to my teacher and he ad-vised me to cooperate with others. Thus,I began to recog-nize the strength of my clasates and he everyone dotheir part in class.
分析：作者通过in fact,at first,as a result,then和thus五个表示时间的过渡语,把五个扩展句有序地组合起来,使读者一目了然.
